Type-C application technology and future trends

Type C application technology and future trends March 2015Apple ’s MacBookGoogle ’s ChromebookJuly 2015 ASUS Tablet ZenPadSeptember 2015 Nexus 5X6P & Pixel C released and used Type C technology The Nokia Z1LeTV and OnePlus 2 phones also have Type C functions. The discussion of Type C is getting hotter which makes us look at the future of Type C again.

Let's take NOKIA N1Type C of LeTV mobile phones on the marketand find that TYPE-C mobile phone although it is TYPE-C connectordoes not meet the specifications of TYPE-C. The original factory is a charger with TYPE-ATYPE- A to TYPE-C's cableso the mobile phone is still an interface concept for speculation. Looking at the real "Type C" in the mobile phone industry requires a transition period. But for NBApple ’s MacBook and Google ’s Chromebook use USB-C Multi-Function (USB 3.1 Gen1 DP)Type-C charging / PD chargingwhich can be said to be the more authentic Type C. This also shows that Type C trends in different industries are different.

Before talking about Type C technology and marketwe can know Type C. Firstcorrect the saying that "type C is USB3.1"USB3.1 is the protocoland Type C is the interface definition, which is a completely different concept.

Type A Type B Type C are as follows:

Type C female definition:

Type C male definition:

What are the advantages of Type C? 1. Support the "positive and negative insertion" function that can be inserted from both sides; 2. The maximum data transmission speed reaches 10Gbit / s; 3. It can withstand 10000 times of repeated insertion and removal; 4. Slim design; 5.USB The size of Type C interface socket is about 8.3mm × 2.5mm; 6. The standard specification cable equipped with USB Type-C connector can pass 3A current while also supporting the “USB PD” that exceeds the existing USB power supply capacitywhich can provide 100W of electricity.

To sum upType C does have many advantages. This trend is well-founded. Then let's take a look at the market and see how the market will accept Type C. According to my rough summary of different industries: the first and fastest login should be

a. Mobile phone

b. Notebook NB

c. Power bank

d. Charger (travel chargercar charger)

e. Handheldminiaturized (POSdroneetc.)

The reasons for choosing them are as follows:

1. There is a demand for fast information transmission

2. There is a demand for miniaturization

3. A demand for charging speed

4. Large market volume is conducive to the development of Type C economic chain.

Now that the market has begun to infiltrateonline experts predict that 2016 will be a starting and popular period.

If you have a Type C standard interfacedo not pursue USB3.1 firstso the design is simple and low cost. For exampleif the mobile phone is changed to USB Type-C USB2.0 interfaceonly the cable needs to be redone no chipthe cost is very small .

If Type C develops smoothlythe following markets will also be popular:

a. High-end lighting DC to DC

b. Projector

c. Security

d. Netcom

e. Industry

f. Medical

g. Set-top box

The reason for choosing them is that 1.Type C supports a maximum output of 100W and the power of some interfaces is sufficient to support applications. 2. These industries need standardization to save costs. 3. The demand transfer rate is fast and the reliability requirement is strong.

In terms of Type C design various chip companies have provided a lot of solutions but many of them are left to customers to choose in terms of protection. In this regard I can focus on talking about the protection. Overvoltage protection there are a lot of Type C signal lines which need to be protected against static electricity. USB Type-C uses two sets in order to ensure that both positive and negative can be plugged in. The speed has reached 10Gb. If the protocol is upgraded later if both groups pass it it will be the same as DisplayPort 20Gb. Therefore the future trend ESD capacitance value is lower (<0.1pF) Summary of signal line transmission rate and AEM recommended capacitance value:

Over-current protection power switch is generally added to the front end of Type C so some USB2.0 do not add fuse. However due to the large current of Type C and the large power of the load the impact energy brought by the abnormality is destructive. Therefore power switch cannot completely cover the problem of interface security which requires over-current protection.

There are 4 Type C power supplies and 4 grounds eachso it can support up to 100W. P.S. Go to your car's car charging port and find that it can support 180W so it is promising to do type C NB charging application after car charging.  As shown below. USB Type-C supports 20V / 5Ait is necessary to add another chip that supports USB PDso USB Type-C interface does not necessarily have 20V / 5A function.
